8-Bent House Frame with Divine Heritage Barns
This is has been a fun and unique project. This old beech frame was the skeleton of a barn when we got ahold of it. Its eighth bent was unusably damaged, so we cut new beams to construct a replacement eighth bent.
Working with Divine Heritage Barns on this project was a ton of fun. We’re super happy with the way this frame came together!
16’x16’ Frame at the Steubenville Workshop
We built this white pine frame at the Steubenville Workshop's 2024 timber framing course. The crucks are made of walnut that has some really gorgeous sap wood, and because of the addition of the trucks, we had to lay this frame out using scribe rule. The crucks on this frame are a subtle nod to medieval tithe barns.
We were really lucky to have Jordan Finch from Finch Woodworks co-teach this course. He’s a master timber framer, and has built some really crazy stuff - it was a treat to learn under him.
Poustinia at the Steubenville Workshop
This structure was part of the Steubenville Workshop's 2023 timber framing course. It was constructed to be a poustinia - a small cabin used by Eastern Christians as a retreat for prayer and solitude. This frame is made of read oak and took a little over a month for the crew to build.
